וַיֹּאמֶר יְהֹוָה אֵלַי בִּימֵי יֹאשִׁיָּהוּ הַמֶּלֶךְ הֲֽרָאִיתָ אֲשֶׁר עָשְׂתָה מְשֻׁבָה יִשְׂרָאֵל הֹלְכָה הִיא עַל־כׇּל־הַר גָּבֹהַּ וְאֶל־תַּחַת כׇּל־עֵץ רַעֲנָן וַתִּזְנִי־שָֽׁם׃
The Lord said also to me in the days of Yoshiyyahu the king, Hast thou seen that which faithless Yisra᾽el has done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there has played the harlot.

ישראל. עשרת השבטי':
הולכה היא. בעודה על אדמתה קודם שגלתה בימי חזקיה עם הושע בן אלה:
הולכה. היתה הולכת על כל הר גבוה:
ותזני שם. לעכו"ם, ותזני כמו ותזן יו"ד יתירה:
וָאֹמַר אַחֲרֵי עֲשׂוֹתָהּ אֶת־כׇּל־אֵלֶּה אֵלַי תָּשׁוּב וְלֹא־שָׁבָה (ותראה) [וַתֵּרֶא] בָּגוֹדָה אֲחוֹתָהּ יְהוּדָֽה׃
And I said, After she has done all these things, she will return to me. But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Yehuda saw it.

ואמר. על ידי נביאי עמוס והושע בן בארי ושאר נביאים אלי תשוב:
ותרא בגודה אחותה יהודה. כל זה, בגודה קשה ממשובה ישראל שהם ראשונים לקילקול ולא ראו פורענות ללמוד ממנו ולשוב קרויין משובה יהודה שראו שגלו אלו ולא לקחו מוסר קרוין בגודה:
וָאֵרֶא כִּי עַל־כׇּל־אֹדוֹת אֲשֶׁר נִֽאֲפָה מְשֻׁבָה יִשְׂרָאֵל שִׁלַּחְתִּיהָ וָאֶתֵּן אֶת־סֵפֶר כְּרִיתֻתֶיהָ אֵלֶיהָ וְלֹא יָרְאָה בֹּגֵדָה יְהוּדָה אֲחוֹתָהּ וַתֵּלֶךְ וַתִּזֶן גַּם־הִֽיא׃
And I saw when, forasmuch as faithless Yisra᾽el had committed adultery, I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; that her treacherous sister Yehuda was not afraid but went and played the harlot also.

וארא כי על כל אודות וגו'. נקודות טעמי מקרא זה מלמדין על פירושו ישראל נקוד זקף מובדל משלחתיה שלחתיה נקוד זקף גדול לעצמו וזה פירושו וארא נסתכלתי בה ליפרע ממנה ולמה כי על כל אודות אשר נאפה משובה ישראל ומה היתה נקמתי שלחתיה מעל פני ולא יראה בגדה יהודה שראתה בפורענות של שומרון לתת לבה לשוב:
וְהָיָה מִקֹּל זְנוּתָהּ וַתֶּחֱנַף אֶת־הָאָרֶץ וַתִּנְאַף אֶת־הָאֶבֶן וְאֶת־הָעֵֽץ׃
And it came to pass through the lightness of her harlotry, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with wood.

ותנאף את האבן. וטעת עם פלחי אבניא ואעיא, וי"ת מקל זנותה ל' קלות מדקלילא בעינהא טעוותהא:
וְגַם־בְּכׇל־זֹאת לֹא־שָׁבָה אֵלַי בָּגוֹדָה אֲחוֹתָהּ יְהוּדָה בְּכׇל־לִבָּהּ כִּי אִם־בְּשֶׁקֶר נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}
And yet for all this her treacherous sister Yehuda has not turned to me with her whole heart, but in pretence, says the Lord.

וגם בכל זאת. שראו בקלקלת פורענות חבריהם:
כי אם בשקר. דורו של יאשיה מראין עצמם שהם צדיקים והם רשעים היו צרים צורות של עכו"ם על דלתותיהם מבפנים חציה על זו וחציה על זו וכשהיו מבערי עכו"ם בודקים היה הדלת פתוח ולא היו מכירין בה:
משובה. נצחת ומוכחת בימי יאשיה המלך כשצוני להחזיר עשרת השבטים הראית אשר עשתה משובה ישראל השובבה אנבוזייא"ה בלעז:
