כֹּה אָמַר יְהֹוָה אִם־לֹא בְרִיתִי יוֹמָם וָלָיְלָה חֻקּוֹת שָׁמַיִם וָאָרֶץ לֹא־שָֽׂמְתִּי׃
Thus says the Lord; If I have not appointed my covenant with day and night, the ordinances of heaven and earth;

גַּם־זֶרַע יַעֲקוֹב וְדָוִד עַבְדִּי אֶמְאַס מִקַּחַת מִזַּרְעוֹ מֹֽשְׁלִים אֶל־זֶרַע אַבְרָהָם יִשְׂחָק וְיַעֲקֹב כִּי־[אָשִׁיב] (אשוב) אֶת־שְׁבוּתָם וְרִחַמְתִּֽים׃ {פ}
then will I cast away the seed of Ya῾aqov and David my servant, and not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Avraham, Yiżĥaq, and Ya῾aqov. No, for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.

אם לא בריתי וגו'. אי אפשר שלא יתקיים הברית שכרתי ליום ולילה להיות בעתם ואי אפשר לחוקות שמים וארץ ליבטל כאלו לא שמתים גם זרע יעקב וגו' ורבותינו דרשוהו לענין ברית התורה ללמוד מכאן שבשביל התורה נבראו שמים וארץ אך אין המדרש מיושב על סדר המקראות:
