וַיִּשְׁמַע עֶבֶד־מֶלֶךְ הַכּוּשִׁי אִישׁ סָרִיס וְהוּא בְּבֵית הַמֶּלֶךְ כִּֽי־נָתְנוּ אֶֽת־יִרְמְיָהוּ אֶל־הַבּוֹר וְהַמֶּלֶךְ יוֹשֵׁב בְּשַׁעַר בִּנְיָמִֽן׃
Now when ῾Eved-melekh the Kushi, a eunuch who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Yirmeyahu in the pit; (the king was sitting in the gate of Binyamin)

הכושי. צדקיהו מה כושי משונה בעורו אף צדקיהו משונה בצדקו מכל דורו ויש מדרש דורש הכושי על ברוך:
איש סריס. גבר רב:
וַיֵּצֵא עֶבֶד־מֶלֶךְ מִבֵּית הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיְדַבֵּר אֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְ לֵאמֹֽר׃

My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Yirmeyahu the prophet, whom they have cast into the pit; and he may well die there of hunger: seeing that there is no more bread in the city.

וימת תחתיו וגו'. אילו הניחו אותו במקומו היה מת מאליו ברעב והם הריעו לקרב מיתתו:
וַיְצַוֶּה הַמֶּלֶךְ אֵת עֶבֶד־מֶלֶךְ הַכּוּשִׁי לֵאמֹר קַח בְּיָדְךָ מִזֶּה שְׁלֹשִׁים אֲנָשִׁים וְֽהַעֲלִיתָ אֶֽת־יִרְמְיָהוּ הַנָּבִיא מִן־הַבּוֹר בְּטֶרֶם יָמֽוּת׃
Then the king commanded ῾Eved-melekh the Kushi, saying, Take from here thirty men with thee, and take up Yirmeyahu the prophet out of the pit, before he dies.

שלשים אנשים. מתוך שכחן תש ברעב נצרכו כולן:
וַיִּקַּח ׀ עֶבֶד־מֶלֶךְ אֶת־הָאֲנָשִׁים בְּיָדוֹ וַיָּבֹא בֵית־הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶל־תַּחַת הָאוֹצָר וַיִּקַּח מִשָּׁם בְּלוֹיֵ (הסחבות) [סְחָבוֹת] וּבְלוֹיֵ מְלָחִים וַיְשַׁלְּחֵם אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָהוּ אֶל־הַבּוֹר בַּחֲבָלִֽים׃
So ῾Eved-melekh took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took from there old rags and worn out clothes, and let them down by ropes into the pit to Yirmeyahu.

וַיֹּאמֶר עֶבֶד־מֶלֶךְ הַכּוּשִׁי אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָהוּ שִׂים נָא בְּלוֹאֵי הַסְּחָבוֹת וְהַמְּלָחִים תַּחַת אַצִּלוֹת יָדֶיךָ מִתַּחַת לַחֲבָלִים וַיַּעַשׂ יִרְמְיָהוּ כֵּֽן׃
