וַיְהִי ׀ בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי בָּא יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה בֶן־אֱלִישָׁמָע מִזֶּרַע הַמְּלוּכָה וְרַבֵּי הַמֶּלֶךְ וַעֲשָׂרָה אֲנָשִׁים אִתּוֹ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָם הַמִּצְפָּתָה וַיֹּאכְלוּ שָׁם לֶחֶם יַחְדָּו בַּמִּצְפָּֽה׃
Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and some of the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedalyahu the son of Aĥiqam to Miżpa; and there they did eat bread together in Miżpa.

Then Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya and the ten men that were with him arose, and struck Gedalyahu the son of Aĥiqam the son of Shafan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Bavel had made governor over the land.

להביא בית ה'. כשנסעו מביתם לא היו יודעים בחורבן הבית ובדרך שמעו וקרעו בגדיה' וגלחו זקנם:
ומתגודדים. לשון שריטה:
וַיֵּצֵא יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה לִקְרָאתָם מִן־הַמִּצְפָּה הֹלֵךְ הָלֹךְ וּבֹכֶה וַֽיְהִי כִּפְגֹשׁ אֹתָם וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם בֹּאוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָֽם׃

וְהַבּוֹר אֲשֶׁר הִשְׁלִיךְ שָׁם יִשְׁמָעֵאל אֵת ׀ כׇּל־פִּגְרֵי הָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר הִכָּה בְּיַד־גְּדַלְיָהוּ הוּא אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה הַמֶּלֶךְ אָסָא מִפְּנֵי בַּעְשָׁא מֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֹתוֹ מִלֵּא יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָהוּ חֲלָלִֽים׃
Now the pit wherein into which Yishma᾽el had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedalyahu, was that which Asa the king had made for fear of Ba῾sha king of Yisra᾽el: and Yishma᾽el the son of Netanyahu filled it with the slain.

אשר הכה ביד גדליהו. מתוך שהיה לו לחוש לעצת יוחנן בן קרח ולא חש העלה עליו כאילו נהרגו על ידו:
וַיִּשְׁבְּ ׀ יִשְׁמָעֵאל אֶת־כׇּל־שְׁאֵרִית הָעָם אֲשֶׁר בַּמִּצְפָּה אֶת־בְּנוֹת הַמֶּלֶךְ וְאֶת־כׇּל־הָעָם הַנִּשְׁאָרִים בַּמִּצְפָּה אֲשֶׁר הִפְקִיד נְבֽוּזַרְאֲדָן רַב־טַבָּחִים אֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָם וַיִּשְׁבֵּם יִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה וַיֵּלֶךְ לַעֲבֹר אֶל־בְּנֵי עַמּֽוֹן׃ {ס}
Then Yishma᾽el carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Miżpa, the king’s daughters, and all the people that remained in Miżpa, whom Nevuzar᾽adan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedalyahu the son of Aĥiqam: and Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of ῾Ammon.
Then Yishma᾽el carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Miżpa, the king’s daughters, and all the people that remained in Miżpa, whom Nevuzar᾽adan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedalyahu the son of Aĥiqam: and Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of ῾Ammon.
ורבי המלך. ושרי המלך נתקנאו בו שנטל גדולה:
