לִבְנֵי עַמּוֹן כֹּה אָמַר יְהֹוָה הֲבָנִים אֵין לְיִשְׂרָאֵל אִם־יוֹרֵשׁ אֵין לוֹ מַדּוּעַ יָרַשׁ מַלְכָּם אֶת־גָּד וְעַמּוֹ בְּעָרָיו יָשָֽׁב׃
Concerning the children of ῾Ammon, thus says the Lord; Has Yisra᾽el no sons? has he no heir? why then does Malkam inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?

מלכם. עבודת כוכבים של בני עמון מלכם שמה שנאמר (מלכים ב כ"ג) ולמלכם תועבת בני עמון:
לָכֵן הִנֵּה יָמִים בָּאִים נְאֻם־יְהֹוָה וְהִשְׁמַעְתִּי אֶל־רַבַּת בְּנֵי־עַמּוֹן תְּרוּעַת מִלְחָמָה וְהָֽיְתָה לְתֵל שְׁמָמָה וּבְנֹתֶיהָ בָּאֵשׁ תִּצַּתְנָה וְיָרַשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־יֹרְשָׁיו אָמַר יְהֹוָֽה׃
Therefore, behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabba of the children of ῾Ammon; and it shall become a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Yisra᾽el dispossess those who dispossessed him, says the Lord.

הֵילִילִי חֶשְׁבּוֹן כִּי שֻׁדְּדָה־עַי צְעַקְנָה בְּנוֹת רַבָּה חֲגֹרְנָה שַׂקִּים סְפֹדְנָה וְהִתְשׁוֹטַטְנָה בַּגְּדֵרוֹת כִּי מַלְכָּם בַּגּוֹלָה יֵלֵךְ כֹּהֲנָיו וְשָׂרָיו יַחְדָּֽיו׃
Howl, O Ḥeshbon, for ῾Ay is plundered: cry, O daughters of Rabba, gird yourselves with sackcloth; lament, and run to and fro by the hedges; for Malkam shall go into exile, and his priests and his princes together.

כי שודדה עי. הסמוכה לה ומארץ עמון היא:
בנות רבה. רבת בני עמון:
והתשוטטנה בגדרות. תירגמו יונתן ואתהממון בסיען התגודדו בחיילות פתר והתשוטטנה לשון חיילות משוטטים וגדרות לשון גדרות צאן המלאים עדרים ויש לפתור והתשוטטנה והתעוללנה בזבל גדרות צאן ל' בזיון ויבז עשו (בראשית כה) ושט עשו:
מַה־תִּתְהַֽלְלִי בָּעֲמָקִים זָב עִמְקֵךְ הַבַּת הַשּׁוֹבֵבָה הַבֹּֽטְחָה בְּאֹצְרֹתֶיהָ מִי יָבוֹא אֵלָֽי׃
Why dost thou glory in the valleys? thy valley flows with blood, O backsliding daughter, that trusts in her treasures, saying, Who shall come against me?

תתהללי. תתפארי וונטי"ר בלע"ז:
בעמקים. שארצך ארץ עמקים ואין עצירת גשמים קשה לה שאין חמה שולטת בה:
זב עמקך. מכת רוב גשמים באה עד שזבו המים בעמק ושטפו שרשי התבואה כך פי' מנחם:
הִנְנִי מֵבִיא עָלַיִךְ פַּחַד נְאֻם־אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה צְבָאוֹת מִכׇּל־סְבִיבָיִךְ וְנִדַּחְתֶּם אִישׁ לְפָנָיו וְאֵין מְקַבֵּץ לַנֹּדֵֽד׃
Behold, I will bring terror upon thee, says the Lord God of hosts, from all those who are round about thee; and you shall be driven out every man straight before him; and there shall be none to take in the wanderer.
