כֹּה אָמַר יְהֹוָה עִמְדוּ עַל־דְּרָכִים וּרְאוּ וְשַׁאֲלוּ ׀ לִנְתִבוֹת עוֹלָם אֵי־זֶה דֶרֶךְ הַטּוֹב וּלְכוּ־בָהּ וּמִצְאוּ מַרְגּוֹעַ לְנַפְשְׁכֶם וַיֹּאמְרוּ לֹא נֵלֵֽךְ׃
Thus says the Lord, Stand on the highways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk upon it, and you shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

וַהֲקִמֹתִי עֲלֵיכֶם צֹפִים הַקְשִׁיבוּ לְקוֹל שׁוֹפָר וַיֹּאמְרוּ לֹא נַקְשִֽׁיב׃
And I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the shofar. But they said, We will not hearken.

והקימותי עליכם צופים. הוא שמעמידין אנשים על המגדלים עת החירום איש צופה ורואה אם גייס בא לעיר תוקע בשופר ומזהיר את העם להחלץ ולבא על החומה אף אני העמדתי נביאים המשמיעים אתכם את הפורענו' הבאה להזדרז ולתקן דרכיכם שתנצלו והוא כשופר תקיעות הצופה הקשיבו לקול השופר הזה והחלצו:
והקימותי. פירוש העמדתי להם כבר וכן ת"י ואקימית, צופים גיט"ש בלעז:
לָכֵן שִׁמְעוּ הַגּוֹיִם וּדְעִי עֵדָה אֶת־אֲשֶׁר־בָּֽם׃

שִׁמְעִי הָאָרֶץ הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי מֵבִיא רָעָה אֶל־הָעָם הַזֶּה פְּרִי מַחְשְׁבוֹתָם כִּי עַל־דְּבָרַי לֹא הִקְשִׁיבוּ וְתוֹרָתִי וַיִּמְאֲסוּ־בָֽהּ׃

פרי מחשבותם. שכר מחשבותם:
ותורתי וימאסו בה. הרי זה דוגמת עזי וזמרת יה ויהי לי לישועה (שמות ט״ו:ב׳) שהיה לו לומר היה לי לישועה אף כאן היה לו לומר ותורתי מאסו בה ודרך המקראות לדבר כן:
לָמָּה־זֶּה לִי לְבוֹנָה מִשְּׁבָא תָבוֹא וְקָנֶה הַטּוֹב מֵאֶרֶץ מֶרְחָק עֹלֽוֹתֵיכֶם לֹא לְרָצוֹן וְזִבְחֵיכֶם לֹא־עָרְבוּ לִֽי׃

למה זה לי לבונה. אשר אתם מקריבים לפני אשר משבא באה:

לָכֵן כֹּה אָמַר יְהֹוָה הִנְנִי נֹתֵן אֶל־הָעָם הַזֶּה מִכְשֹׁלִים וְכָשְׁלוּ בָם אָבוֹת וּבָנִים יַחְדָּו שָׁכֵן וְרֵעוֹ (יאבדו) [וְאָבָֽדוּ]׃ {פ}
