וַֽיְהִי אַֽחֲרֵי־כֵן וַיַּךְ דָּוִיד אֶת־פְּלִשְׁתִּים וַיַּכְנִיעֵם וַיִּקַּח אֶת־גַּת וּבְנֹתֶיהָ מִיַּד פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃

ויך דויד את הדדעזר מלך צובה חמתה. בחמת היתה המלחמה ובחמת הכם דוד:

להציב ידו. פתרונו כשהלך להציב כחו להשיב גבולו ולהציב בנהר פרת שהיה משיב לגבול נהר פרת ודוגמא (שמואל ב י״ח:י״ח) ואבשלום לקח ויצב לו בחייו וגו' ויקרא לה יד אבשלום שפתרונו כח גבול אבשלום, ד"א ויקרא לה יד אבשלום בתוך המצבה צר אבשלו' צורת אורך ידו כדכתיב באותו פסוק כי אמר זאת הצורה המצויירת אחר יד אבשלום, (מפי ר' יצחק בר שמואל בנרבונ"א שמעתי כן):
וַיִּלְכֹּד דָּוִיד מִמֶּנּוּ אֶלֶף רֶכֶב וְשִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים פָּרָשִׁים וְעֶשְׂרִים אֶלֶף אִישׁ רַגְלִי וַיְעַקֵּר דָּוִיד אֶת־כׇּל־הָרֶכֶב וַיּוֹתֵר מִמֶּנּוּ מֵאָה רָֽכֶב׃
And David took from him one thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David lamed all the chariot horses, but reserved from them enough for a hundred chariots.

ויעקר דויד. ומשום דכתיב לא ירבה לו סוסים כדכתיב (דברים י"ז) ואת סוסיהם תעקר (יהושע י״א:ו׳):

נחשת רבה מאד בה עשה וגו'. וזהו שאמר כיון שאמר דוד לבנות הבית ואמר הקב"ה לו לא אתה תבנה הבית כי אם בנך מספר והולך היאך זימן לו לבנות הבנין:
ויהי אחרי כן ויך דויד. אחר שאמר דוד לבנות בית וא"ל הקב"ה לא תבנה אתה אמר דוד הואיל ואין עלי לבנות הבית אלא בני עתה אכינה ואסדר לו הכל לכשיבא בני לבנות הבית שיהא לו הכל מזומן ועתה מניח הכל והולך ומספר היאך זימן לו הבנין שנלחם עם אויביו והקדיש שללם לבנין הבית וכן דרך הפסוק לדברו ודוגמא באליהו ובאלישע מאחר שאמר יהי נא פי שנים ברוחך אלי מניח כל המעשה מן המלכים ומספר והולך מן נפלאות אלישע היאך היו פי שנים עד שישלים הכל:
