וַיַּבְדֵּל דָּוִיד וְשָׂרֵי הַצָּבָא לַעֲבֹדָה לִבְנֵי אָסָף וְהֵימָן וִידוּתוּן (הנביאים) [הַֽנִּבְּאִים] בְּכִנֹּרוֹת בִּנְבָלִים וּבִמְצִלְתָּיִם וַֽיְהִי מִסְפָּרָם אַנְשֵׁי מְלָאכָה לַעֲבֹדָתָֽם׃
And David and the captains of the host separated for the service certain of the sons of Asaf, and of Heman, and of Yedutun, who should prophesy with lyres, with lutes, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:

לבני אסף וגו'. מכל הלוים לא הבדיל כ"א בני אסף:
והימן וידותון הנבאים. כשהיו מנגנים בכלי שירים הללו היו מתנבאים דוגמא באלישע קחו לי מנגן (מלכים ב ג׳:ט״ו) והיה כנגן המנגן ותהי עליו יד ה':
ויהי מספרם אנשי מלאכה. כלומר המשמרות כ"ד על כ"ד משמרות ד' בנים של אסף וששה של ידותון וי"ד של הימן הרי כ"ד למטה כלל מספר כולן כדכתיב ויהי מספרם עם אחיהם וגו':
לִבְנֵי אָסָף זַכּוּר וְיוֹסֵף וּנְתַנְיָה וַאֲשַׂרְאֵלָה בְּנֵי אָסָף עַל יַד־אָסָף הַנִּבָּא עַל־יְדֵי הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

לִידוּתוּן בְּנֵי יְדוּתוּן גְּדַלְיָהוּ וּצְרִי וִישַׁעְיָהוּ חֲשַׁבְיָהוּ וּמַתִּתְיָהוּ שִׁשָּׁה עַל יְדֵי אֲבִיהֶם יְדוּתוּן בַּכִּנּוֹר הַנִּבָּא עַל־הֹדוֹת וְהַלֵּל לַיהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}
Of Yedutun: the sons of Yedutun; Gedalyahu, and Żeri, and Yesha῾yahu, Ḥashavyahu, and Mattityahu; six, under the hands of their father Yedutun, who prophesied with a lyre, to give thanks and to praise the Lord.

ומתתיהו ששה. ולא תמצא אלא חמש אשתו היתה מעוברת את שמעי וראה ברוח הקודש שגם הוא עתיד להיות ראש משמרה לפיכך אמר ששה וזהו שנאמר לפנינו העשירי שמעי זהו שיסד הפייטן (בקדושת של יוצר דפרשת שקלים) רשום מבטן להפקד במשמרת הקודש:
על ידי אביהם ידותון. דוגמא על ידו החזיק (נחמיה ג׳:ח׳):
הנבא על הודות והלל. שהיו מנגנים בכנור מזמורי הודו ומזמורי הללויה והיה מתנבא:
