מוּסַר יְהֹוָה בְּנִי אַל־תִּמְאָס וְאַל־תָּקֹץ בְּתוֹכַחְתּֽוֹ׃
My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord; nor be weary of his correction:

ואל תקוץ. מלשון קצתי בחיי (בראשית כז):
כִּי אֶת־אֲשֶׁר יֶאֱהַב יְהֹוָה יוֹכִיחַ וּכְאָב אֶת־בֵּן יִרְצֶֽה׃

וכאב את בן ירצה. שרוצה בבנו להטיב לו ויפייסהו לאחר שמכהו בשבט כן יערב לך הטובה אחר המכה:
אַשְׁרֵי אָדָם מָצָא חׇכְמָה וְאָדָם יָפִיק תְּבוּנָֽה׃
Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gets understanding.

אשרי אדם מצא חכמה ואדם יפיק תבונה. שלומד חכמה עד ששגורה היא להוציא מפיו:
כִּי טוֹב סַחְרָהּ מִסְּחַר־כָּסֶף וּמֵחָרוּץ תְּבוּאָתָֽהּ׃
For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and its gain than fine gold.

כי טוב סחרה מסחר כסף. כל חלופין שאדם מחליף בסחורה זה נוטל זה וזה נוטל זה אבל האומר לחבירו שנה לי פרקך ואני אשנה לך פרקי נמצאו שניהם ביד כל אחד ואחד:
חרוץ. מין זהב הוא:
יְקָרָה הִיא (מפניים) [מִפְּנִינִים] וְכׇל־חֲפָצֶיךָ לֹא יִֽשְׁווּ־בָֽהּ׃
She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared to her.

וכל חפציך. כל חמדותיך:
לא ישוו בה. לא יהיו שוין בשוויה ודמיהן בדמיה:
אֹרֶךְ יָמִים בִּֽימִינָהּ בִּשְׂמֹאולָהּ עֹשֶׁר וְכָבֽוֹד׃
Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand are riches and honour.

דְּרָכֶיהָ דַרְכֵי־נֹעַם וְֽכׇל־נְתִיבוֹתֶיהָ שָׁלֽוֹם׃
