לֵֽךְ־אֶל־נְמָלָה עָצֵל רְאֵה דְרָכֶיהָ וַחֲכָֽם׃
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

אשר אין לה קצין. שיוכיח אותה ויזרזנה ויוציא מידה אם תגזול דבר מחברתה ואף על פי כן:
תָּכִין בַּקַּיִץ לַחְמָהּ אָגְרָה בַקָּצִיר מַאֲכָלָֽהּ׃

תכין בקיץ לחמה אגרה בקציר מאכלה. מזונה, כל אחת ואחת אינה גוזלת מחבירתה:
עַד־מָתַי עָצֵל ׀ תִּשְׁכָּב מָתַי תָּקוּם מִשְּׁנָתֶֽךָ׃

וּבָֽא־כִמְהַלֵּךְ רֵאשֶׁךָ וּמַחְסֹרְךָ כְּאִישׁ מָגֵֽן׃ {פ}

ובא כמהלך ראשך. אם תעשה כן יבא חסרונך ודבר שאתה רש ממנו יבא לך מיד כאדם המהלך מהר ומחסורך יבא ויתמלא:
כאיש מגן. הבא מהר להגין על אדוניו, המקראות אלו עקרן משל על המתעצלין לעסוק בתורה:
לך אל נמלה עצל וגו'. וחכם והתחכם:
