לַמְנַצֵּחַ לְדָוִד אָמַר נָבָל בְּלִבּוֹ אֵין אֱלֹהִים הִֽשְׁחִיתוּ הִֽתְעִיבוּ עֲלִילָה אֵין עֹֽשֵׂה־טֽוֹב׃
To the chief Musician, of David. The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that does good.

אין אלהים. ואעלה על במתי עב (ישעיהו י״ד:י״ד):
השחיתו התעיבו עלילה. מעללים:
יְֽהֹוָה מִשָּׁמַיִם הִשְׁקִיף עַֽל־בְּנֵי־אָדָם לִרְאוֹת הֲיֵשׁ מַשְׂכִּיל דֹּרֵשׁ אֶת־אֱלֹהִֽים׃

הכל סר וגו'. אין איש בחיילותיו מוחה בידו:
נאלחו. נהפכו לקלקול:
הֲלֹא יָדְעוּ כׇּל־פֹּעֲלֵי אָוֶן אֹכְלֵי עַמִּי אָכְלוּ לֶחֶם יְהֹוָה לֹא קָרָֽאוּ׃
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord.

הלא ידעו. הלא סופם ידעו מה שעלתה בהם:
אוכלי עמי. זרעו של נבוכדנצר:
אכלו לחם. עשו משתה (דניאל ה׳:א׳) בלשצר מלכא עבד לחם רב:
ה' לא קראו. לא חשבוהו ולא זכרו נפלאותיו ונוראותיו במשתיהם ונשתמשו בכליו, ורבותינו פירשו כל שלא היה גוזל את ישראל לא היה טועם טעם ערב במאכלו, אוכלי עמי נדמה להם כאוכלי לחם שטעמו טעם מאכל ערב:
שָׁם ׀ פָּחֲדוּ פָחַד כִּֽי־אֱלֹהִים בְּדוֹר צַדִּֽיק׃

שם פחדו פחד. שנשתלם גמולו לבלשצר וכו':
כי אלהים בדור צדיק. בדורו של יכניה שהיו צדיקי':
עֲצַת־עָנִי תָבִישׁוּ כִּי יְהֹוָה מַחְסֵֽהוּ׃

עצת עני תבישו. אתם אומרי' שעצתם של ישראל בושה על שהם בוטחי' בה' כי ה' מחסהו:
מִי־יִתֵּן מִצִּיּוֹן יְשׁוּעַת יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּשׁוּב יְהֹוָה שְׁבוּת עַמּוֹ יָגֵל יַעֲקֹב יִשְׂמַח יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ {פ}
Oh that the salvation of Yisra᾽el were come out of Żiyyon! when the Lord brings back the captivity of his people, Ya῾aqov shall rejoice, and Yisra᾽el shall be glad.

מי יתן. אז יקרב היום שיתן מציון ישועת ישראל ואז יגל יעקב ישמח ישראל:
אמר נבל בלבו וגו'. שני מזמורים אמר דוד בספר זה בענין א' הראשון על נבוכדנצר והשני (לקמן נג) על טיטוס הרשע זה נתנבא על נבוכדנצר שעתיד ליכנס להיכל ולהחריבו ואין א' מכל חיילותיו מוחה בידו:
