וַיְהִי דְבַר־יְהֹוָה אֵלַי לֵאמֹֽר׃

בֶּן־אָדָם הִנָּבֵא אֶל־נְבִיאֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הַנִּבָּאִים וְאָֽמַרְתָּ לִנְבִיאֵי מִלִּבָּם שִׁמְעוּ דְּבַר־יְהֹוָֽה׃
Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Yisra᾽el that prophesy, and say to them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear the word of the Lord;

כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה הוֹי עַל־הַנְּבִיאִים הַנְּבָלִים אֲשֶׁר הֹלְכִים אַחַר רוּחָם וּלְבִלְתִּי רָאֽוּ׃
thus says the Lord God; Woe to the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!

רוחם. כמו רצונם:
כְּשֻׁעָלִים בׇּחֳרָבוֹת נְבִיאֶיךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל הָיֽוּ׃
O Yisra᾽el, thy prophets are like foxes among ruins.

כשועלים בחרבות. כשיבא אדם על פרץ החורבה בורח השועל על דרך פרץ אחרת ואינו עומד בפרץ להלחם:
לֹא עֲלִיתֶם בַּפְּרָצוֹת וַתִּגְדְּרוּ גָדֵר עַל־בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל לַעֲמֹד בַּמִּלְחָמָה בְּיוֹם יְהֹוָֽה׃
You have not gone up into the breaches, nor have you built a fence for the house of Yisra᾽el to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord.

לא עליתם בפרצות. לא עשיתם מעשים טובים שתוכלו לעכב את הרעה מלבא:
חָזוּ שָׁוְא וְקֶסֶם כָּזָב הָאֹֽמְרִים נְאֻם־יְהֹוָה וַיהֹוָה לֹא שְׁלָחָם וְיִחֲלוּ לְקַיֵּם דָּבָֽר׃
They have seen vanity and lying divination; they say, The Lord says: and the Lord has not sent them: and they hope that he will confirm the word.

חזו. לשון נבואה:
ויחלו לקיים דבר. ואיך סבורים לקיים דבריהם, לשון תוחלת וי"א איקוויירירא"ט בלע"ז, ל' אחר ל' המתנה:
הֲלוֹא מַֽחֲזֵה־שָׁוְא חֲזִיתֶם וּמִקְסַם כָּזָב אֲמַרְתֶּם וְאֹֽמְרִים נְאֻם־יְהֹוָה וַאֲנִי לֹא דִבַּֽרְתִּי׃ {ס}
