כשועלים בחרבות. כשיבא אדם על פרץ החורבה בורח השועל על דרך פרץ אחרת ואינו עומד בפרץ להלחם:
לֹא עֲלִיתֶם בַּפְּרָצוֹת וַתִּגְדְּרוּ גָדֵר עַל־בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל לַעֲמֹד בַּמִּלְחָמָה בְּיוֹם יְהֹוָֽה׃

ויחלו לקיים דבר. ואיך סבורים לקיים דבריהם, לשון תוחלת וי"א איקוויירירא"ט בלע"ז, ל' אחר ל' המתנה:
הֲלוֹא מַֽחֲזֵה־שָׁוְא חֲזִיתֶם וּמִקְסַם כָּזָב אֲמַרְתֶּם וְאֹֽמְרִים נְאֻם־יְהֹוָה וַאֲנִי לֹא דִבַּֽרְתִּי׃ {ס}

והוא בונה חיץ. והנה עמי כבונים בנין מחיצה והנביאים טחים אותו תפל קרקע הדומה לסיד ואינו מתקיים לפני הגשמים:
תפל. אוטומנ"ץ בלע"ז וי"א בלאשטניי"א בלע"ז:
אֱמֹר אֶל־טָחֵי תָפֵל וְיִפֹּל הָיָה ׀ גֶּשֶׁם שׁוֹטֵף וְאַתֵּנָה אַבְנֵי אֶלְגָּבִישׁ תִּפֹּלְנָה וְרוּחַ סְעָרוֹת תְּבַקֵּֽעַ׃

ואתנה. כמו ואתן:
אבני אלגביש. אבני ברד גדולות ואומר אני לפי שהם מזהירות ככל אבני גביש (ברד) הוא מדמה אותם אל גביש שהיא אבן טובה כענין שנאמר ראמות וגביש (איוב כ״ח:י״ח) ורבותינו אמרו אל גביש שעמדו באויר על גב איש וזהו משה רבינו שנאמר ומטר לא נתך ארצה (שמות ט׳:ל״ג) אותם שהתחילו לירד לא הגיעו לארץ:
תפולנה. על הקיר:
וְהִנֵּה נָפַל הַקִּיר הֲלוֹא יֵאָמֵר אֲלֵיכֶם אַיֵּה הַטִּיחַ אֲשֶׁר טַחְתֶּֽם׃ {ס}

הוי למתפרות כסתות. קוטרא"ש בלע"ז כמין כסתות קטנות היו תופרות ותולות לנשאלים אליהם על אצילי ידיהם וקוסמות להם באותן כסתות קסם שקרי' ולמי שהם חפצות אומרות קסם טוב ולמי שרוצות אומרות קסם רע:
אצילי. איישיל"ש בלע"ז:
אצילי ידי. כמו אצילי ידים וכמו תלמי שדי (הושע יא):
ועושות המספחות. על ראשי האנשים אף הם לקסום בהם ולא ידעתי מה הם מתוך שנאמר וקרעתי אותם אומר אני שהן של בגד ויונתן תרגמו פת כומרים וכן תרגם במות טלואות מחפיין פת כומרים:
המספחות. כמו ספחני נא (שמואל א ב׳:ל״ו) לישאגמנ"ץ בלע"ז ויש לועזים פלטראיי"ש בלע"ז:
לצודד נפשות. בהן הן צדות הנפשות לגיהנם שמחזיקות ידי הרשעים לקסום להם שלום ומרפות ידי צדיקים לקסום להם רעה:
הנפשות תצודדנה וגו'. תמיה היא:
ונפשות לכנה תחיינה. לכנה כמו לכם שאתנה נוטלות שכר על כך ומתפרנסות בכך:
וַתְּחַלֶּלְנָה אֹתִי אֶל־עַמִּי בְּשַׁעֲלֵי שְׂעֹרִים וּבִפְתוֹתֵי לֶחֶם לְהָמִית נְפָשׁוֹת אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא־תְמוּתֶנָה וּלְחַיּוֹת נְפָשׁוֹת אֲשֶׁר לֹא־תִֽחְיֶינָה בְּכַזֶּבְכֶם לְעַמִּי שֹׁמְעֵי כָזָֽב׃ {ס}
And will you profane me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people who hear your lies?

בשעלי שעורים. כמו מי מדד בשעלו מים (ישעיהו מ׳:י״ב) אונגיאלוניא"ש בלע"ז, לשון אחר לשון מדה:
ובפתותי לחם. איאנפיצא"ש בלע"ז שאתן נוטלות בשכרכן:
להמית נפשות אשר לא תמותנה. כלומר לאמר על נפשות אשר לא תמותנה אלו ימותו ולאמ' על אשר לא תחיינ' יחיו כי קסמיכם שקר ועמי מקבלים את קסמי כזב שלכם:
לָכֵן כֹּה־אָמַר ׀ אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה הִנְנִי אֶל־כִּסְּתוֹתֵיכֶנָה אֲשֶׁר אַתֵּנָה מְצֹדְדוֹת שָׁם אֶת־הַנְּפָשׁוֹת לְפֹרְחוֹת וְקָרַעְתִּי אֹתָם מֵעַל זְרוֹעֹֽתֵיכֶם וְשִׁלַּחְתִּי אֶת־הַנְּפָשׁוֹת אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם מְצֹדְדוֹת אֶת־נְפָשִׁים לְפֹרְחֹֽת׃

לפורחות. להיות פורחות על ידיכן לגיהנם:
ושלחתי את הנפשות. כתרגומו ואשזיב ית נפשתא דאתון מחרשן ית נפשיהן לאבדותה':
