עֲשֵׂה הָרַתּוֹק כִּי הָאָרֶץ מָֽלְאָה מִשְׁפַּט דָּמִים וְהָעִיר מָלְאָה חָמָֽס׃
Make the chain: for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.

משפט דמים. חייבי קטול:
וְהֵֽבֵאתִי רָעֵי גוֹיִם וְיָרְשׁוּ אֶת־בָּתֵּיהֶם וְהִשְׁבַּתִּי גְּאוֹן עַזִּים וְנִחֲלוּ מְקַֽדְשֵׁיהֶֽם׃

רעי גוים. רעים שבעכו"ם ואכזרים:
ונחלו. ויתנחלו לאחרים:
מקדשיהם. בתי היכל הבמות שהיו נועדים שם ל' בית זמונם:
קְפָדָה־בָא וּבִקְשׁוּ שָׁלוֹם וָאָֽיִן׃

הוה על הוה. מאורע על מאורע הויה אחר הויה ומנחם חברו לשון שבר:
ותורה תאבד מכהן. הרגילים בהוראה כמו שנאמר ותורה יבקשו מפיהו (מלאכי ב׳:ז׳):
