בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא יוּשַׁר הַשִּׁיר־הַזֶּה בְּאֶרֶץ יְהוּדָה עִיר עׇז־לָנוּ יְשׁוּעָה יָשִׁית חוֹמוֹת וָחֵֽל׃
On that day shall this song be sung in the land of Yehuda; We have a strong city; he sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks.

וחל. חומה נמוכה שלפני החומה הגבוה:
פִּתְחוּ שְׁעָרִים וְיָבֹא גוֹי־צַדִּיק שֹׁמֵר אֱמֻנִֽים׃

פתחו שערים. שלה ויבא לתוכה גוי צדיק:
שומר. ששמר וצפה בגלותו ימים רבים לאמונתו של הקב"ה שיקיים הבטחתו שהבטיח ע"פ נביאיו לגאלם:
שומר. ממתין וכן (בראשית לז) ואביו שמר את הדבר וכן (דברים ו') ושמר ה' אלהיך לך:
יֵצֶר סָמוּךְ תִּצֹּר שָׁלוֹם ׀ שָׁלוֹם כִּי בְךָ בָּטֽוּחַ׃
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusts in Thee.

יצר. שהיה סמוך על הקב"ה ונשען עליו בחזקה שלא זז מאמונתו בשביל שום אימה ויסורין:
תצור. שיהא שלום כי בך היה בטוח לפיכך הגון לך לנצרו:
בִּטְחוּ בַיהֹוָה עֲדֵי־עַד כִּי בְּיָהּ יְהֹוָה צוּר עוֹלָמִֽים׃

כי ביה ה'. כי יש לסמוך עליו שהוא דחילא ה' סלע וצור מחסה עולמים:
כִּי הֵשַׁח יֹשְׁבֵי מָרוֹם קִרְיָה נִשְׂגָּבָה יַשְׁפִּילֶנָּה יַשְׁפִּילָהּ עַד־אֶרֶץ יַגִּיעֶנָּה עַד־עָפָֽר׃

יושבי מרום. צור ושאר ארצות:
תִּרְמְסֶנָּה רָגֶל רַגְלֵי עָנִי פַּעֲמֵי דַלִּֽים׃

רגלי עני. מלך המשיח שנאמר בו עני ורוכב על החמור (זכריה ט' ט):
פעמי דלים. ישראל שהיו דלים עד הנה:
אֹרַח לַצַּדִּיק מֵישָׁרִים יָשָׁר מַעְגַּל צַדִּיק תְּפַלֵּֽס׃

אורח לצדיק מישרים. אורח שתהא מישור לקיבול שכרו של צדיק אתה ה' שאתה אל ישר תפלס מעגל צדיק להוליכו באותו אורח שיקבל שכרו והצדיק הוא יעקב וזרעו וכה פתרונו אורח לצדיק ליטול שכר מישרים שנוהג בהן:
ישר. אתה הקב"ה מעגל רגלי הצדיק תפלס לו לאותו אורח פילוס זה לשון קונטרפיי"ש בלע"ז כמלך היושב ומחשב ומשקל בלבו איזה יכשר הזה או זה כך הישר בלבו להוליכו בדרך קיבול שכר על כל אשר הנהיג מעשיו לפניך בכשרון:
אַף אֹרַח מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ יְהֹוָה קִוִּינוּךָ לְשִׁמְךָ וּלְזִכְרְךָ תַּאֲוַת־נָֽפֶשׁ׃
Indeed, in the way of Thy judgments, O Lord, have we waited for Thee; the desire of our soul is to Thy name, and to the remembrance of Thee.

אף אורח משפטיך ה' קוינוך. כאשר צפינו לקבול הטובה מאתך אף כך קוינו להראותנו אורח משפטי נקמתיך ברשעים:
לשמך ולזכרך תאות נפש. אותה נפשנו לראות שם שיצא לך מאז לעשות נקמה בצריך:
נַפְשִׁי אִוִּיתִךָ בַּלַּיְלָה אַף־רוּחִי בְקִרְבִּי אֲשַׁחֲרֶךָּ כִּי כַּאֲשֶׁר מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ לָאָרֶץ צֶדֶק לָמְדוּ יֹשְׁבֵי תֵבֵֽל׃
With my soul have I desired Thee in the night; with my spirit within me I seek Thee: for when Thy judgments are on the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

נפשי אויתיך. בגלותי שדומה ללילה לעשות את אלה:
אף רוחי בקרבי אשחרך. אתחנן לך לכל זה למה כי כאשר משפטיך באים לארץ שאתה עושה משפט ברשעים:
צדק למדו יושבי תבל. למדי' להצדיק את דיניך ולהודות על מדותיך שרואים החוטא לוקה והצדיק מקבל שכר טוב:
יֻחַן רָשָׁע בַּל־לָמַד צֶדֶק בְּאֶרֶץ נְכֹחוֹת יְעַוֵּל וּבַל־יִרְאֶה גֵּאוּת יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}
Let favour be shown to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the Lord.

יוחן רשע בל למד צדק. וכי יש לך לחון את עשו הרשע אשר דר בין שני צדיקים ולא למד צדק:
בארץ נכוחות. ירושלים ובית המקדש יעול לשלול ולבוז ולהשחית:
ובל יראה גאות ה'. לא חשב בעיניו גדלך וגאותך ובל יראה ל' רגילות ותמידות לא ראה לא חשב כמו ככה יעשה איוב (איוב א׳:ה׳):
עיר עז לנו ישועה ישית. העיר ירושלים שהיה מאז תמיד לנו לעוז ישועה ישית המושיע את חומותיה ואת חילה:
