כִּי־כֹה ׀ אָמַר יְהֹוָה לְאִישׁ יְהוּדָה וְלִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִם נִירוּ לָכֶם נִיר וְאַֽל־תִּזְרְעוּ אֶל־קֹצִֽים׃
For thus says the Lord to the men of Yehuda and Yerushalayim, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

ואל תזרעו אל קוצים. ואל תהי צעקתכם לפני מתוך הרשע כי אם מתוך תשובה שלא תהיו דומים לזורע בלא ניר והיא נהפכת לקוצים קרדונ"ש בלעז:
הִמֹּלוּ לַיהֹוָה וְהָסִרוּ עׇרְלוֹת לְבַבְכֶם אִישׁ יְהוּדָה וְיֹשְׁבֵי יְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם פֶּן־תֵּצֵא כָאֵשׁ חֲמָתִי וּבָֽעֲרָה וְאֵין מְכַבֶּה מִפְּנֵי רֹעַ מַעַלְלֵיכֶֽם׃
Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Yehuda and inhabitants of Yerushalayim: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

המולו לה'. בטרם תצא חמתי כאש זהו כניר לפני הזרע:
הַגִּידוּ בִֽיהוּדָה וּבִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִם הַשְׁמִיעוּ וְאִמְרוּ (ותקעו) [תִּקְעוּ] שׁוֹפָר בָּאָרֶץ קִרְאוּ מַלְאוּ וְאִמְרוּ הֵאָסְפוּ וְנָבוֹאָה אֶל־עָרֵי הַמִּבְצָֽר׃

ואמרו תקעו שופר. הזהירו את יושבי הארץ שיתקעו בשופר לברוח:
מלאו. לשון אסיפה והרבה יש במקרא אשר יקרא עליו מלא רועים (ישעיהו ל״א:ד׳) יקראו אחריך מלא (לקמן יב) יחד עלי יתמלאון (איוב ט״ז:י׳):
שְׂאוּ־נֵס צִיּוֹנָה הָעִיזוּ אַֽל־תַּעֲמֹדוּ כִּי רָעָה אָנֹכִי מֵבִיא מִצָּפוֹן וְשֶׁבֶר גָּדֽוֹל׃

עָלָה אַרְיֵה מִֽסֻּבְּכוֹ וּמַשְׁחִית גּוֹיִם נָסַע יָצָא מִמְּקֹמוֹ לָשׂוּם אַרְצֵךְ לְשַׁמָּה עָרַיִךְ תִּצֶּינָה מֵאֵין יוֹשֵֽׁב׃

עַל־זֹאת חִגְרוּ שַׂקִּים סִפְדוּ וְהֵילִילוּ כִּי לֹֽא־שָׁב חֲרוֹן אַף־יְהֹוָה מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ {פ}

על זאת. מה הוא זאת כי לא שב וגו' ואע"פ שדבר למעלה בנבוכדנאצר על החורבן כאן חזר לדבר במיתת יאשיהו:
כי לא שב חרון אף וגו'. ואע"פ ששב יאשיהו בכל לב נאמר בו (מלכים ב כ״ב:א׳) לא שב ה' מחרון אפו על כל הכעסים אשר הכעיסו מנשה:
כי כה אמר ה' וגו'. נירו לכם ניר הוו למידין מעובדי אדמה שנרים אותה בימי הקיץ להמית שרשי העשבים שלא תהא מעלה קוצים בעת הזרע בחורף אף אתם הטיבו מעשיכם בטרם תבא עליכם הרעה שלא תהא תפלתכם נמאסת כשתצעקו:
