גַּם־אֵלֶּה מִשְׁלֵי שְׁלֹמֹה אֲשֶׁר הֶעְתִּיקוּ אַנְשֵׁי ׀ חִזְקִיָּה מֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָֽה׃

כְּבֹד אֱלֹהִים הַסְתֵּר דָּבָר וּכְבֹד מְלָכִים חֲקֹר דָּבָֽר׃

כבוד אלהים הסתר דבר. כגון מעשה מרכבה ומעשה בראשית:
וכבוד מלכים חקור דבר. כשאתה דורש בכבוד מלכים או בכבוד חכמים שעשו סיגים לתורה ובגזרות שגזרו בהם יש לך לחקור ולדרוש ולשאול טעם לדבר אבל כשתדרוש במעשה מרכבה ובמעש' בראשית ובחוקי' הכתובים בתורה כגון חוקים ודברים שהשטן מקטרג עליהם ומשיב עליהם באכילת חזיר וכלאי כרם ושעטנז אין לך לחקור רק להסתיר ולומר גזרת מלך הוא:
שָׁמַיִם לָרוּם וָאָרֶץ לָעֹמֶק וְלֵב מְלָכִים אֵין חֵֽקֶר׃

אין חקר. לרום שמים ולעומק הארץ וללב מלכי' אין חקר שכמה דינים באים לפניהם וכמה מלחמות וצריכים לתת לב לכולם ואם כל הלשונות מדברים וכל הידים כותבין אינן יכולין לכתוב חללה של רשות:

הגו סיגים מכסף. משוך כמו כאשר הוגה מן המסילה (שמואל ב כ׳:י״ג) כשם שאין הכלי של כסף יוצא למלאכת צורף עד שיוציאו ממנו סיגים של נחשת שבו כך אין צבור נפטרין מעונש עד שיוציאו מתוכ' הרשעים ויעשו בהם דין:

אל תתהדר לפני מלך. להראו' כבודך ולהתגאות לפני מלך או לעמוד לפני מי שגדול ממך כי טוב שיאמרו לך עלה הנה משתבוא בלא רשותו ויאמרו לך צא:

דבר דבור על אפניו. על כנו ודוגמתו נשאתי אימיך אפונה (תהלים פח) מבוססת ומיושבת בקרבי ואין זה מגזרת אופן וגלגל (ישעי' כח) שאלו כן היה נקוד פת"ח תחת הפ"א כמו האופנים ולא יפול בו נקודת חטף קמץ:

גם אלה משלי שלמה אשר העתיקו. חזר לדורש' כשנתמנה חזקיהו למלך והוא הושיב תלמידים בכל עיר כדאמרינן בפ' חלק בדקו מדן ועד באר שבע ולא מצאו עם הארץ:
