5:1

וְאַתָּה בֶן־אָדָם קַח־לְךָ ׀ חֶרֶב חַדָּה תַּעַר הַגַּלָּבִים תִּקָּחֶנָּה לָּךְ וְהַעֲבַרְתָּ עַל־רֹאשְׁךָ וְעַל־זְקָנֶךָ וְלָקַחְתָּ לְךָ מֹאזְנֵי מִשְׁקָל וְחִלַּקְתָּֽם׃

And thou, Son of man, take a sharp knife; a barber’s razor take for thyself; and pass it over thy head, and over thy beard: then take balances to weigh, and divide the hair.

חרב חדה. סימן לחרב נבוכדנצר:

תער הגלבים. הרצענים ולשון יווני הוא וי"א פרקמציר בלע"ז ומנחם חבר תער הגלבים תער הגולחים ואין לו דמיון בתור':

5:2

שְׁלִשִׁית בָּאוּר תַּבְעִיר בְּתוֹךְ הָעִיר כִּמְלֹאת יְמֵי הַמָּצוֹר וְלָקַחְתָּ אֶת־הַשְּׁלִשִׁית תַּכֶּה בַחֶרֶב סְבִיבוֹתֶיהָ וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית תִּזְרֶה לָרוּחַ וְחֶרֶב אָרִיק אַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃

Thou shalt burn with fire a third part in the midst of the city, when the days of the siege are fulfilled: and thou shalt take a third part, and smite about it with the sword: and a third part thou shalt scatter to the wind; and I will draw out a sword after them.

Rashi

בתוך העיר. אשר חקות על הלבינה ככלות ימי מצורך אות היא שיכלו שלישית' בזלעפו' רעב בתוכה שהם כאש כענין שנאמר עורנו כתנור נכמרו מפני זלעפות רעב (איכה ה):

תכה. אותה בחרב:

סביבותי'. סביב אותה לבינה סימן על הבורחים מן העיר שישיגום כשדים ויהרגום סביב ירושלים:

והשלישית תזרה לרוח. סימן לגולים שילכו למצרים ויוחנן בן קרח וחבורתו ושם אריק חרב אחריה' שהלך נבוכדנצר והחריב את מצרים ושם נהרגו:

5:3

וְלָקַחְתָּ מִשָּׁם מְעַט בְּמִסְפָּר וְצַרְתָּ אוֹתָם בִּכְנָפֶֽיךָ׃

Thou shalt also take from these a small number, and bind them in thy skirts.

Rashi

וצרת אותם בכנפיך. אלו מתי מעט שיגלו לבבל ויחיו:

5:4

וּמֵהֶם עוֹד תִּקָּח וְהִשְׁלַכְתָּ אוֹתָם אֶל־תּוֹךְ הָאֵשׁ וְשָׂרַפְתָּ אֹתָם בָּאֵשׁ מִמֶּנּוּ תֵֽצֵא־אֵשׁ אֶל־כׇּל־בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ {פ}

Then take more of them, and cast them into the midst of the fire, and burn them in the fire; from there a fire shall come forth into all the house of Yisra᾽el.

ומהם עוד תקח. מאותם מתי מעט:

ושרפת אותם באש. סימן לאחאב בן קוליה וצדקיה בן מחסיה אשר קלם מלך בבל:

ממנו תצא אש. מן הרמזים האלה שאני רומז לך תצא הפורעניות לכל בית ישראל:

5:5

כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה זֹאת יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם בְּתוֹךְ הַגּוֹיִם שַׂמְתִּיהָ וּסְבִיבוֹתֶיהָ אֲרָצֽוֹת׃

Thus says the Lord God; This is Yerushalayim: I have set it in the midst of the nations; and countries are round about her.

בתוך הגוים שמתיה. באמצע העולם:

5:6

וַתֶּמֶר אֶת־מִשְׁפָּטַי לְרִשְׁעָה מִן־הַגּוֹיִם וְאֶת־חֻקּוֹתַי מִן־הָאֲרָצוֹת אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבוֹתֶיהָ כִּי בְמִשְׁפָּטַי מָאָסוּ וְחֻקּוֹתַי לֹא־הָלְכוּ בָהֶֽם׃ {ס}

And she has rebelled against my judgments more wickedly than the nations, and against my statutes more than the countries that are round her: for they have refused my judgments, and as for my statutes, they have not followed them.

Rashi

ותמר את משפטי. ותחלף את משפטי:

מן הגוים. שכך כתוב במשנה ויתעה מנשה את יהודה ויושבי ירושלים לעשות רע מן הגוים אשר השמיד ה' מפני בני ישראל (ד"ה ב לג) ויש פותרי' שהגוים לא קבלו תורתו והם קבלוה עליה' ועברו עליה:

5:7

לָכֵן כֹּה־אָמַר ׀ אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה יַעַן הֲמׇנְכֶם מִן־הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבוֹתֵיכֶם בְּחֻקּוֹתַי לֹא הֲלַכְתֶּם וְאֶת־מִשְׁפָּטַי לֹא עֲשִׂיתֶם וּֽכְמִשְׁפְּטֵי הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבוֹתֵיכֶם לֹא עֲשִׂיתֶֽם׃

Therefore thus says the Lord God; Because you have been more turbulent than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, nor have you kept my judgments, nor have you done according to the practices of the nations that are round about you;

יען המנכם. יען הזמינכם את עצמכם להפקר מן הגוים:

המנכם. לשון וימן להם המלך (דניאל א) ומנחם פתרו לשון הומה כמו המו גוים (תהלים מז):

וכמשפטי הגוים אשר סביבותיכם לא עשיתם. שהם לא המירו את אלהיהם והמה לא אלהים ואתם המרתם כבודי בלא יועיל ורבותינו פירשו כמתוקנים שבהם לא עשיתם כמקולקלים שבהם עשיתם:

5:8

לָכֵן כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה הִנְנִי עָלַיִךְ גַּם־אָנִי וְעָשִׂיתִי בְתוֹכֵךְ מִשְׁפָּטִים לְעֵינֵי הַגּוֹיִֽם׃

therefore thus says the Lord God; Behold, I, even I, am against thee, and will execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations.

גם אני. את בגדת עלי וגם אני הנני עליך:

5:9

וְעָשִׂיתִי בָךְ אֵת אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא־עָשִׂיתִי וְאֵת אֲשֶֽׁר־לֹא־אֶעֱשֶׂה כָמֹהוּ עוֹד יַעַן כׇּל־תּוֹעֲבֹתָֽיִךְ׃ {פ}

And I will do in thee that which I have not done, and like which I will not do again, because of all thy abominations.

5:10

לָכֵן אָבוֹת יֹאכְלוּ בָנִים בְּתוֹכֵךְ וּבָנִים יֹאכְלוּ אֲבוֹתָם וְעָשִׂיתִי בָךְ שְׁפָטִים וְזֵרִיתִי אֶת־כׇּל־שְׁאֵרִיתֵךְ לְכׇל־רֽוּחַ׃ {ס}

Therefore the fathers shall eat the sons in the midst of thee, and the sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments in thee, and the whole remnant of thee will I scatter to all the winds.

5:11

לָכֵן חַי־אָנִי נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה אִם־לֹא יַעַן אֶת־מִקְדָּשִׁי טִמֵּאת בְּכׇל־שִׁקּוּצַיִךְ וּבְכׇל־תּוֹעֲבֹתָיִךְ וְגַם־אֲנִי אֶגְרַע וְלֹא־תָחוֹס עֵינִי וְגַם־אֲנִי לֹא אֶחְמֽוֹל׃

Therefore, as I live, says the Lord God; Surely, because thou hast defiled my sanctuary with all thy detestable things, and with all thy abominations, therefore will I also diminish thee; neither shall my eye spare, neither will I have any pity.

5:12

שְׁלִשִׁתֵיךְ בַּדֶּבֶר יָמוּתוּ וּבָֽרָעָב יִכְלוּ בְתוֹכֵךְ וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית בַּחֶרֶב יִפְּלוּ סְבִיבוֹתָיִךְ וְהַשְּׁלִישִׁית לְכׇל־רוּחַ אֱזָרֶה וְחֶרֶב אָרִיק אַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃

A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee: and a third part shall fall by the sword round about thee; and I will scatter a third part to all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them.

5:13

וְכָלָה אַפִּי וַהֲנִחוֹתִי חֲמָתִי בָּם וְהִנֶּחָמְתִּי וְֽיָדְעוּ כִּֽי־אֲנִי יְהֹוָה דִּבַּרְתִּי בְּקִנְאָתִי בְּכַלּוֹתִי חֲמָתִי בָּֽם׃

Thus shall my anger spend itself, and I will relieve my fury upon them, and I will be comforted: and they shall know that I the Lord have spoken it in my zeal, when I have spent my fury in them.

Rashi

והניחותי חמתי. כשאנקם בם תנוח חמתי ולא תציקני רוחי:

והנחמתי. ואתנחם על הצער שצערתם אותי:

5:14

וְאֶתְּנֵךְ לְחׇרְבָּה וּלְחֶרְפָּה בַּגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבוֹתָיִךְ לְעֵינֵי כׇּל־עוֹבֵֽר׃

Moreover I will make thee a desolation, and a reproach among the nations that are round about thee, in the sight of all that pass by.

ולחרפה. דישטרוי"ר בלע"ז:

5:15

וְֽהָיְתָה חֶרְפָּה וּגְדוּפָה מוּסָר וּמְשַׁמָּה לַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבוֹתָיִךְ בַּעֲשׂוֹתִי בָךְ שְׁפָטִים בְּאַף וּבְחֵמָה וּבְתֹכְחוֹת חֵמָה אֲנִי יְהֹוָה דִּבַּֽרְתִּי׃

So it shall be a reproach and a taunt, an instruction and an astonishment to the nations that are round about thee, when I shall execute judgments in thee in anger and in fury and in furious rebukes. I the Lord have spoken it.

5:16

בְּֽשַׁלְּחִי אֶת־חִצֵּי הָרָעָב הָרָעִים בָּהֶם אֲשֶׁר הָיוּ לְמַשְׁחִית אֲשֶׁר־אֲשַׁלַּח אוֹתָם לְשַׁחֶתְכֶם וְרָעָב אֹסֵף עֲלֵיכֶם וְשָׁבַרְתִּי לָכֶם מַטֵּה־לָֽחֶם׃

When I shall send upon them the evil arrows of famine, which shall be for destruction, which I will send to destroy you: and I will increase the famine upon you, and will break your staff of bread:

ורעב אוסיף עליכם. הוא רעב הפרוטה הכלה מן הכיס כך שמעתי:

מטה לחם. משען לחם:

5:17

וְשִׁלַּחְתִּי עֲלֵיכֶם רָעָב וְחַיָּה רָעָה וְשִׁכְּלֻךְ וְדֶבֶר וָדָם יַעֲבׇר־בָּךְ וְחֶרֶב אָבִיא עָלַיִךְ אֲנִי יְהֹוָה דִּבַּֽרְתִּי׃ {פ}

so will I send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall bereave thee; and pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee. I the Lord have spoken.
