מַשָּׂא גֵּיא חִזָּיוֹן מַה־לָּךְ אֵפוֹא כִּי־עָלִית כֻּלָּךְ לַגַּגּֽוֹת׃

כי עלית כולך לגגות. כשבא עליהם חיל עולים על גגותיהם לראות החיל ולהלחם ורבותינו פירשו על כהנים שעלו על גגו של היכל ומפתחות העזרה בידם כדאיתא במסכת תענית, ומדרש אגדה אומר שהיו גסי הרוח, באיכה רבתי:
תְּשֻׁאוֹת ׀ מְלֵאָה עִיר הֽוֹמִיָּה קִרְיָה עַלִּיזָה חֲלָלַיִךְ לֹא חַלְלֵי־חֶרֶב וְלֹא מֵתֵי מִלְחָמָֽה׃
Thou that art full of uproar, a tumultuous city, a joyous city: thy slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.

תשואות מלאה. עיר שהיתה מלאה תשואות קול רוב אדם הומיה ועליזה עכשיו מה לך מתאבלת:
חלליך לא חללי חרב. טובים היו אילו חללי חרב היו מעכשיו שהם חללי רעב:
כׇּל־קְצִינַיִךְ נָֽדְדוּ־יַחַד מִקֶּשֶׁת אֻסָּרוּ כׇּל־נִמְצָאַיִךְ אֻסְּרוּ יַחְדָּו מֵרָחוֹק בָּרָֽחוּ׃

כל קציניך נדדו יחד. צדקיהו ושריו שיצאו לברוח בלילה:
מקשת אוסרו. אשר מאימת המורים חצים בקשת היו נאסרים להסגר בתוך העיר וכל הנמצאים בו אוסרו יחד בזיקים ורובן מרחוק ברחו קודם לכן:
עַל־כֵּן אָמַרְתִּי שְׁעוּ מִנִּי אֲמָרֵר בַּבֶּכִי אַל־תָּאִיצוּ לְנַֽחֲמֵנִי עַל־שֹׁד בַּת־עַמִּֽי׃
Therefore said I, Look away from me; I will weep bitterly, labour not to comfort me, because of the spoiling of the daughter of my people.

כִּי יוֹם מְהוּמָה וּמְבוּסָה וּמְבוּכָה לַֽאדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה צְבָאוֹת בְּגֵי חִזָּיוֹן מְקַרְקַר קִר וְשׁוֹעַ אֶל־הָהָֽר׃

וקיר ערה מגן. ת"י ועל שור דבקו תריסין והוא כמו ערות על יאור (לעיל יט) ומתערה כאזרח רענן (תהילים ל״ז:ל״ה), ויש לפרש וקיר ערה מגן קיר שם העיר כמו (מ"ב טו) ויגלה קירה בני אותה מדינה גלו מגיניהם על ירושלים:

שת שתו השערה. שמו מצור על השערים ודוגמתו יש במלכים במלחמת בן הדד שימו על העיר (שם א כ):

ואת בתי ירושלים ספרתם. כמה בתים יש לכל אחד שיתנו מהם לפי חשבון כדי לקחת האבנים והעצים לבצר את החומה:
לבצר. לחזק לשון ערים בצורות (במדבר יב):

ומקוה עשיתם. אגם מים להיות חוזק לעיר:
בין החומותים. החומות כפולות חיל וחומה ובין מי הברכה הישנה:
ולא הבטתם אל עושיה. ואם תאמרו אף חזקיה עשה כן שנאמר (ד"ה ב לה) ויתחזק ויבן את כל החומה הפרוצה ויעל על המגדלי' ולחוצה החומה האחרת ויחזק את המלא עיר דוד, חזקיהו בה' אלהי ישראל בטח וגו' (מלכים ב י״ח:ה׳) אבל אתם בימי יהויקים וצדקיה לא הבטתם אל עושיה:
ויוצרה מרחוק. מאז שברא את העולם עלתה ירושלי' ובית המקדש במחשבה:
לא ראיתם. לא חשבתם:
וַיִּקְרָא אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה צְבָאוֹת בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לִבְכִי וּלְמִסְפֵּד וּלְקׇרְחָה וְלַחֲגֹר שָֽׂק׃

והנה ששון ושמחה. הקב"ה כביכול אבל לפניו ואתם אוכלים ושמחים:
כי מחר נמות. בעולם הבא הנביאים אומרים לנו מאת הקב"ה שלא יהיה לנו חלק לעוה"ב נעשה לנו הנאה בחיינו:
וְנִגְלָה בְאׇזְנָי יְהֹוָה צְבָאוֹת אִם־יְכֻפַּר הֶעָוֺן הַזֶּה לָכֶם עַד־תְּמֻתוּן אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה צְבָאֽוֹת׃ {פ}
