Yechezkel 25 · Pshat

25:1

וַיְהִי דְבַר־יְהֹוָה אֵלַי לֵאמֹֽר׃

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

25:2

בֶּן־אָדָם שִׂים פָּנֶיךָ אֶל־בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן וְהִנָּבֵא עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

Son of man, set thy face against the children of ῾Ammon, and prophesy against them;

25:3

וְאָֽמַרְתָּ לִבְנֵי עַמּוֹן שִׁמְעוּ דְּבַר־אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה כֹּה־אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה יַעַן אׇמְרֵךְ הֶאָח אֶל־מִקְדָּשִׁי כִי־נִחָל וְאֶל־אַדְמַת יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי נָשַׁמָּה וְאֶל־בֵּית יְהוּדָה כִּי הָלְכוּ בַּגּוֹלָֽה׃

and say to the children of ῾Ammon, Hear the word of the Lord God; Because thou didst say Aha, against my sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Yisra᾽el, when it was made desolate; and against the house of Yehuda, when they went into exile;

האח. לשון שמחה:

כי נחל. כי ננחל והיה מורשה לאחרים:

25:4

לָכֵן הִנְנִי נֹתְנָךְ לִבְנֵי־קֶדֶם לְמוֹרָשָׁה וְיִשְּׁבוּ טִירֽוֹתֵיהֶם בָּךְ וְנָתְנוּ בָךְ מִשְׁכְּנֵיהֶם הֵמָּה יֹאכְלוּ פִרְיֵךְ וְהֵמָּה יִשְׁתּוּ חֲלָבֵֽךְ׃

behold, therefore I will deliver thee to the men of the east for a possession, and they shall set their palaces in thee, and make their dwellings in thee; they shall eat thy fruit, and they shall drink thy milk.

לבני קדם. כשדים וארם לצד מזרח הם:

25:5

וְנָתַתִּי אֶת־רַבָּה לִנְוֵה גְמַלִּים וְאֶת־בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן לְמִרְבַּץ־צֹאן וִידַעְתֶּם כִּי־אֲנִי יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}

And I will make Rabba a pasture for camels, and the children of ῾Ammon a couching place for flocks: and you shall know that I am the Lord.

25:6

כִּי כֹה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה יַעַן מַחְאֲךָ יָד וְרַקְעֲךָ בְּרָגֶל וַתִּשְׂמַח בְּכׇל־שָֽׁאטְךָ בְּנֶפֶשׁ אֶל־אַדְמַת יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

For thus says the Lord God; Because thou hast clapped thy hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced with all the disdain of thy soul against the land of Yisra᾽el;

Rashi

יען מחאך יד ורקעך ברגל. לשם שמחה ואע"פ שבראש הספר (לעיל ו) אמר כן לענין אבל הכה בכפך ורקע ברגליך ואמור האח יש דברים שעושין אותם לאבל ולשמחה אבל אין עניינם שוה וכן חלילים לכלה ולמת:

ורקעך. לשון מרפס:

בכל שאטך. לשון בזיון פותרין בו כמו ויבז עשו (בראשית כ״ה:ל״ד) שתרגום אונקלוס ושאט עשו ואני אומר שאט לשון שטף גולוזמנ"ט בלע"ז:

25:7

לָכֵן הִנְנִי נָטִיתִי אֶת־יָדִי עָלֶיךָ וּנְתַתִּיךָֽ (לבג) [לְבַז] לַגּוֹיִם וְהִכְרַתִּיךָ מִן־הָעַמִּים וְהַאֲבַדְתִּיךָ מִן־הָאֲרָצוֹת אַשְׁמִידְךָ וְיָדַעְתָּ כִּֽי־אֲנִי יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}

behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand upon thee, and I will deliver thee for a spoil to the nations; and I will cut thee off from the peoples, and I will cause thee to perish out of the countries: I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.

25:8

כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה יַעַן אֲמֹר מוֹאָב וְשֵׂעִיר הִנֵּה כְּכׇֽל־הַגּוֹיִם בֵּית יְהוּדָֽה׃

Thus says the Lord God; Because Mo᾽av and Se῾ir do say, Behold, the house of Yehuda is like all the nations;

Rashi

הנה ככל הגוים בית יהודה. בטלה אהבת הקב"ה מהם ונמאסו לתת ביד נבוכדנצר כשאר העכו"ם ומדרש אגדה שנכנסו להיכל וקפלו צורות הכרובים שצר שלמה על קיר ההיכל כמער איש ולויות (מלכים א ז׳:ל״ו) והוציאום לחוץ אמרו ראו אלו שהיו מראים עצמם כצנועים במה היו עוסקין:

25:9

לָכֵן הִנְנִי פֹתֵחַ אֶת־כֶּתֶף מוֹאָב מֵהֶעָרִים מֵעָרָיו מִקָּצֵהוּ צְבִי אֶרֶץ בֵּית הַיְשִׁימֹת בַּעַל מְעוֹן (וקריתמה) [וְקִרְיָתָֽיְמָה]׃

therefore, behold, I will open the flank of Mo᾽av on the side of the cities, on the side of his cities which are on his frontiers, the beautiful country of Bet-hayshimot, Ba῾al-me῾on, and Qiryatayim,

Rashi

הנני פותח. את מבצרי ארץ מואב אשר בספר בסוף גבולם הוא הכתף סוף גבול ארצם כמו (שמות כ״ז:ט״ו) ולכתף השנית אל הכתף דמתרגם לעיברא:

25:10

לִבְנֵי־קֶדֶם עַל־בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן וּנְתַתִּיהָ לְמוֹרָשָׁה לְמַעַן לֹא־תִזָּכֵר בְּנֵֽי־עַמּוֹן בַּגּוֹיִֽם׃

to the children of the east I will give it (along with the children of ῾Ammon) as a possession, so that the children of ῾Ammon may not be remembered among the nations.

Rashi

לבני קדם. אפתה אותם שיבאו על בני עמון דרך ארץ מואב:

25:11

וּבְמוֹאָב אֶעֱשֶׂה שְׁפָטִים וְיָדְעוּ כִּי־אֲנִי יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}

And I will execute judgments upon Mo᾽av; and they shall know that I am the Lord.

25:12

כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱהֹוִה יַעַן עֲשׂוֹת אֱדוֹם בִּנְקֹם נָקָם לְבֵית יְהוּדָה וַיֶּאְשְׁמוּ אָשׁוֹם וְנִקְּמוּ בָהֶֽם׃

Thus says the Lord God; Because Edom has dealt against the house of Yehuda by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them;
